A routine for adults

Brush for about two minutes twice daily, including before bed, using fluoride toothpaste. For most adults, toothpaste containing 1,350–1,500 ppm fluoride is suitable unless a dentist recommends otherwise.

Cover every surface

Use a soft brush and gentle controlled movements. Clean the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces and pay attention to the gumline. Electric and manual brushes can both work when used thoroughly.

Keep fluoride on the teeth

Spit out excess toothpaste after brushing; do not immediately rinse it away with water. If you use mouthwash, discuss its purpose and use it at a different time.

Clean between teeth

Use floss or an interdental brush that fits without being forced. Ask for a demonstration around bridges, implants, or tight contacts.

Persistent bleeding needs a dental assessment. For children, toothpaste amount, fluoride concentration, and supervision require age-appropriate guidance.
