See what your dentist is explaining

An intraoral camera takes close-up color images of accessible areas in the mouth. It can help illustrate a worn restoration, a visible crack, a plaque-retaining margin, or changes that need observation.

A communication record

Images can make a discussion easier to follow and provide a record for comparison. Their interpretation depends on lighting, focus, access, and the clinical examination.

What a photograph cannot tell you

A camera image cannot reliably reveal what lies beneath a filling, measure all gum attachment loss, or establish the depth of a cavity. Other examination methods and selected radiographs may be needed.

Ask the dentist to explain what is visible, what remains uncertain, and how the finding changes the treatment recommendation. A close-up image should support a diagnosis rather than replace it.
