From a digital design to a restoration

CAD means computer-aided design; CAM means computer-aided manufacturing. In dentistry, a digital record can be used to design a restoration and guide a compatible manufacturing process.

Material and design still determine the workflow

Milled ceramics, polymers, and metal frameworks have different processing requirements. Some ceramics require additional firing or crystallization. Finishing, polishing, and correct bonding or fixation remain clinical and laboratory steps.

Does digital mean same-day?

Not necessarily. Complexity, tissue condition, verification, and laboratory stages determine timing. A multi-unit or implant reconstruction may need several appointments even when its design is digital.

Before final placement

The team checks margins or interfaces, contact points, bite, appearance, and material suitability. Manufacturing precision cannot correct an inaccurate initial record or an unsuitable prescription.
