IPS e.max CAD is a lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic product used for specified restorative indications. The wider brand family includes different products, so the exact material and manufacturer's instructions matter.
Where it may fit
Selected veneers, partial-coverage restorations, and crowns may benefit from its optical properties. Suitability depends on remaining tooth structure, restoration thickness, bite forces, and the prescribed bonding or cementation method.
It is not interchangeable with zirconia
Lithium disilicate and zirconia differ in structure, processing, and surface treatment. Choosing between them requires more than a comparison of “strength” or “beauty.” Long-span and full-arch indications must not be assumed from the suitability of a single crown.
Before placement
The dentist checks shade, margins, contacts, and bite and uses a material-appropriate fixation protocol. A ceramic restoration can still fracture or debond, and the supporting tooth still needs protection from decay.
Ask for the exact material description rather than relying only on a popular brand name.
