Follow your procedure-specific plan

Implant aftercare varies with grafting, sutures, temporary teeth, and the type of surgery. Your surgeon's written instructions take priority.

Protect the area

Avoid disturbing the wound or testing whether the implant moves. Follow the prescribed food texture and chewing restrictions. A temporary tooth is not permission to bite hard foods on a newly placed implant.

Clean as instructed

Continue cleaning areas away from the wound. Ask when and how to brush near the surgical site and whether a prescribed rinse is needed. Do not direct forceful water jets at a fresh wound.

Medicines and review

Take prescribed medication only as directed and disclose reactions promptly. Do not start leftover antibiotics or stop regular medical treatment independently. Attend the planned review even if the area feels comfortable.

Contact the clinician

Report a moving component, persistent bleeding, increasing swelling, fever, worsening pain, or altered sensation that persists beyond the expected anaesthetic period. Do not tighten a screw yourself. Breathing or swallowing difficulty, spreading swelling, or uncontrolled bleeding requires emergency care.
